In real life, Miki and Phish share their home with four cats. Although each cat has an official name, they are almost exclusively referred to by their nicknames within the household.
Miki has stated that, despite having plenty of scratching posts available, the cats prefer to scratch the household furniture instead. This has become a recurring source of amusement and frustration, as the cats consistently ignore the alternatives provided for them.
Miki has stated that one of her cats enjoys watching television in the bedroom and appears to pay particular attention whenever a 'gooner' anime is playing. According to Miki, the cat often appears “caught in the act” when called out watching it.
The joke is further reinforced by the cat's habit of chewing and ingesting her own fur, a behavior likely related to her history as a rescue animal. This has resulted in patches of missing fur around her hindquarters, giving the appearance that she is not wearing pants. Combined with her interest in anime, this has Miki to jokingly refer to her as a “gooner cat”.
